For a fast-scaling biotech building its presence in Italy, we are looking for a Business Unit Director – Rare Diseases. The environment is lean, high-velocity and high-accountability: we need an entrepreneurial leader who can build, adapt quickly, and deliver results in complex ecosystems.

The Mission
Own and accelerate the Rare Diseases business by defining the strategy and driving best-in-class execution across the full value chain—where “getting things done” matters as much as vision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the go-to-market strategy (pre-launch/launch/growth), with P&L ownership and clear commercial priorities.
  • Lead and develop a cross-functional team (e.g., Sales, KAM, Market Access, Medical, Patient Support) with a hands-on, outcome-driven approach.
  • Develop and manage a strong stakeholder ecosystem: KOLs, treatment centers, patient associations, institutions and regional decision makers.
  • Partner closely with Market Access and Medical to ensure strategic alignment and consistent scientific/commercial messaging.
  • Set up agile operating rhythms and KPIs: forecasting, territory performance, pipeline, launch readiness, execution tracking.
  • Anticipate market dynamics (competitors, regional variability, hub-and-spoke models) and rapidly adjust plans accordingly.

Ideal Background
  • Proven leadership in Rare Diseases / Specialty Care (e.g., BU Head/Director, Commercial Lead, Head of Franchise, Business Lead).
  • Strong preference for candidates coming from highly complex specialty areas with challenging patient journeys (e.g., hematology, oncology, immunology, neurology, nephrology, metabolic disorders, rare diseases, etc.).
  • Demonstrated track record in launches and/or scale-up phases, ideally in agile or transformation environments.
  • Strong execution capability: prioritization, speed, data-driven decisions, stakeholder influence.
  • Credibility with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders; ability to work effectively in matrix and “build-from-scratch” settings.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Italian fluency is a strong plus.

What You’ll Find Here
  • A lean structure and wide decision-making autonomy.
  • Real impact: you’ll shape strategy, team and execution end-to-end.
  • A growth journey where high standards and speed are non-negotiable.

Location: Milan
